The Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana is a scheme launched by the Indian government in October 2014 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of the birthday of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan.
It aims to develop three Adarsh Grams by March 2019 and thereafter 5 such Adarsh Grams (one per year) will be selected and developed by 2024.
SAGY is inspired by the values of Mahatma Gandhi.
SAGY has been designed to encourage people to stay in their villages and take up the responsibility of improving the quality of life there. It will help to strengthen rural India and provide a better quality of life for its citizens.
The idea behind this scheme is that if the rural areas are developed, it will lead to an improvement in the overall development of India as a whole.

Introduction: What is the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and How Is It Going to Shape India?
SAGY is a scheme that focuses on the development of villages and aims to make them self-sustainable.
The scheme is led by the Prime Minister and schemes want to nurture values of patriotism, community spirit, self-confidence, and on developing infrastructure in villages. This to improve the quality of life in villages and also provide them access to basic amenities and opportunities to shape their future.
Under the Scheme, Members of Parliament (MPs) are responsible for developing the socio-economic and physical infrastructure of the villages
The scheme is going to shape India by developing rural areas and helping the country progress economically.
How SAGY is Going to Improve Lives in Rural Areas – The Goals and Objectives of the Scheme
The scheme is an initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
It aims to provide basic amenities such as electricity, drinking water, toilets, roads and other such services to every household in rural areas.
A new scheme called SAGY has been launched by the Union Government for rural development. How is Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana implemented?
- Identification of the Gram Panchayat – Uploading the GP identification letter from Hon ‘MP on the portal after validation from District Collector
- appointment of Charge officer
- Entry activities – Social mobilization driven by the MP
- Setting of working group comprising of district collector and other expert from the village development plan
- Identifying the local needs, resources, services and other amenities of the GP
- Formulate a village development plan
- Approval of the Village Development Plan at both Gram Saba and also at the District Collector level
- Execution of the projects proposed under VDP by convergence of resources by both Central Government and State Government.
