Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana was launched on 25 Sept 2014 on the occasion of 98th birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya. The scheme will benefit 55milion rural who will be skilled, provided the required training so that they can find a sustainable income.
It aims to skill the rural youth and provide them with jobs. This initiative is under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and seeks to uplift the lives of poor youth and their households.

DDU-GKUY Objective
DDU-GKY objective is to skill the youth in rural youth by providing them free training and finding an employment opportunity for them so that you can uplift the lives of the rural households by raising their incomes
- Raising awareness about employment opportunities within rural communities
- Identifying poor rural youth who needs support
- Look to mobilize rural youth seeking employment opportunities.
- Counselling of poor youth and explaining of the benefits so that you can guide them
- Selection of based on merit so that the youth can placed in the right domain and provide with the required training
- To provide them with the required skills and training so that they are employable
- Give jobs to youth and which can be verified through independent agencies and also to provide them wages about the minimum wages
- Support the youth even after post-employment to check their progress and provide them support.

Eligibility and documents required to get enrolled in the DDU-GKY program?
Proof of Identity and age
- Aadhaar Card or Election id card or any Government issued photo id card
- Birth certificate if it not showing in the above card
Proof of Eligibility
- BPL Card of self or your household
- MGNREGA worker card
- Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) card of your household
- Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) or BPL PDS card of your household
- NRLM-Self Help Group identification or certificate for any member of your household
Proof if you are claiming reservation
- SC/ST Certificate issued by competent authority
- Disability Certificate issued by a Registered Medical Practitioner

- The applicant must be above the age of 15 years.

- 35 years for Rural Youth

Features of DDU-GKY
Multi Partner Approach
The DDU-GKY program is run through Public and Private sector partnerships. Curriculum framing and assessment is done by National Council on Vocational Training (NVCT, ) and Industry partnership allows access to new technology and on-the-job training.
Target is to place 70% of the trainees through the support of training partners and employer engagement. The idea is to place the trainees with a minimum salary of 6000 per month.
Focus on sustainability
Candidates are trained in Soft Skills, English and Computer literacy so that they hit the job running on the domain they are working from the day one when they are employed. DDU-GKY has mandated a minimum of 160 hours of training in Soft Skills, English, and Computers. There is also a module of workers readiness training is suggested so that are employable from day one of the jobs.
Candidates receive various benefits in the form of free training, free uniform, free course material, free lodging and board in case of residential programs, reimbursements of expenses in non-residential programs. Focus is also to place 70% of the trainees with a minimum salary of 6000 per month
Quality Assurance Framework:
Quality Assurance Framework has defined the Guidelines and Standard Operating procedures for the program so that it has minimum service level benchmarks and standards, controls & audits and remedial actions to take are defined in the framework. This to ensure accountability & transparency in the program.
DDU-GKY also invests in 25% of training costs so that Private instructions are not burdened to invest in quality training centres.
Employing Technology in implementation:
DDU-GKY program also ensures that the level of technological exposure is there in the program so that it provides training, monitoring, and implementing the project seamlessly.
DDU-GKY has implemented the following while working with training partners
- GEO Tagged Bio Metric attendance record – which is similar to the ones used by companies to track employees in the company
- Provision of providing tablet PC to trainees in the training centres
- Provide adequate Computer labs and e- learning in the training centres to provide the trainees with adequate opportunities to learn.
