Introduction: What is the Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABY)?
The Atal Bhujal Yojana is a scheme that aims to provide piped water supply to all households in rural India.
The Atal Bhujal Yojana (ABY) was launched by the Government of India on 25th December 2019, to provide piped water supply to all households in rural India. The scheme is aimed at providing safe drinking water and improving sanitation conditions in rural areas by providing piped water supply, toilets, and other sanitation facilities.
The ABY has been launched with an initial allocation of Rs 20,000 crore for the period of five years. This amount will be increased gradually over the period of five years as per the requirement.
The plan seeks to improve groundwater management by involving communities in priority areas identified in seven States including. Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. The scheme’s implementation will benefit approximately 8350 Gram Panchayats spread across the 78 districts of these States.
